Precision Livestock Farming : Suppliers e-course

Introduction

This unit presents the main concepts and the basic knowledge about Livestock Farming Systems.

The two main components of Livestock Farming Systems, namely the “animal” and the “people” are then studied in more details.

Livestock Farming Systems are an essential link in animal product supply chains. They interact with so-called upstream business (feed industry, equipment supplier, vet ...) and downstream business (dairy industry, slaughter house, meat processing ...) in the chain to supply animal food products that satisfy consumer demands and societal concerns.

For a good understanding of the current issues about animal production chains, it is essential to have an integrated approach of the whole chain based on the knowledge of the objectives and operation of its various links.
