Introduction
A tool has been developed within the EU-PLF project to calculate the potential value of PLF technologies at farm level.
The tool considers three levels of benefits :
Tangible : It is known in which area the technology has an impact (labour/milkproduction/antibiotic use) and often the technology is associated with a clear management action :
→ The tool calculates the monetary return from implementing the PLF technology.
Semi-tangible : the technology is expected to have direct economic effect at farm level BUT it is not possible (yet) to link it to clear areas of farm management and/or management actions :
→ The tool calculates the break-even point of the PLF technology.
Intangible : the added value of the PLF technology is a social value that most often cannot be expressed in monetary terms :
→ The tool assesses preferences of social and economic benefits of potential buyers of PLF technologies, using an Adaptive Conjoint Analysis.
